This work draws from an ancient representation of Venus discovered in Pompeii, preserving the sensual and serene pose of the original figure. However, the goddess leaves the archaeological world behind and reappears through a contemporary, colourful and deliberately kitsch visual language.
The composition transforms the Roman fresco through a brighter palette, graphic outlines and fragments of newspaper integrated into the shell, creating a dialogue between classical imagery, popular culture and the present. The pink geometric border recalls ancient Greco-Roman motifs, while the grid of ceramic tiles fragments the scene as though it were an archaeological discovery reconstructed piece by piece.
Venus no longer belongs solely to the past: she is reborn as a modern icon. Between history, memory and artistic reinterpretation, the work revives an image thousands of years old and gives it a new identity within the visual universe of Kitsch & Huis.
